Her innovative and creative writing has elevated her freelancing career. Within two years of freelancing, she had the opportunity to work with 75 foreign and national clients. Let’s dive into her freelance life and see how she turned her writing skills into a professional freelancing writing career.
When did you start freelancing and what inspired you?
I started my freelancing journey in April 2020. The gig economy was booming worldwide, and pandemics contributed to more freelancing opportunities. Looking at the future scope, I started my freelancing journey and it has been nothing less than rewarding till now. I have worked in two content writing firms and finally decided to switch to freelancing in 2020. It’s been two years now, working as a freelancer.
What do you like the most about Writing?
I have had a knack for writing since childhood. It surely helps me to express myself through the articulation of words. I am fortunate to earn through something I am passionate about. As a profession, a writing career is full of challenges that do not allow monotony. This versatility is what grabbed me into this career.
What are the most important skills required as a freelance writer?
As a freelance writer, the most important skills would be to unlearn old things and learn new things. Digital marketing is evolving every passing minute. As content writing is closed lined to digital marketing, it is essential to upskill one’s SEO and digital marketing knowledge to ensure your client’s business can be benefitted from your writing.
What challenges have you come across in your freelancing career?
The biggest challenge in my freelancing career was to maintain a work-life balance. Being a workaholic, I had been working day and night in 2020 burning myself out. But finally decided to address the challenge, and I ensure that I take the weekends off to start fresh every Monday.
Another challenge would be fake or difficult clients. Some clients would take the work and just disappear. The only way to overcome this challenge was by charging an advance amount to start the work. Moreover, if it was a client from Truelancer, the deposit feature safeguarded me from fake clients.
What according to you does it take to be a successful Content writer?
The definition of success varies from person to person. For me, it is all about being happy with what I do. I look forward to starting working on my projects every morning. I would say that it takes a positive mindset to be a successful person in any domain.
You can become a successful content writer only if you can understand industry demands and upgrade your writing skills accordingly. Also, some content writers become successful by specializing in a specific niche. However, that is not mandatory until you feel the drive to niche down.
What suggestions do you want to give to the budding freelance writer?
There’s a lot to learn in content writing. Just knowing to write English won’t get you, high-ticket clients. There is no end to learning in this sphere. Learn and upgrade your skills regularly to prosper as a content writer. Also, keep evaluating your work and industry rates. Know the value of your skill and charge accordingly.
If you charge low, your skill is being exploited. If you are charging higher than your writing quality, the client won’t come back to you, so evaluate and research pricing trends in the market then charge smartly.
Understand and learn content writing before earning from it. Do not give spinner or plagiarized content to clients. It would mean the end of your career.
I wish you, all the budding freelance writers, the best wishes for your career!
