Incubators and Accelerators play major roles in modern economy. To support the entrepreneurs, a lot of innovative programs are getting launched. Several initiatives have been also taken by the Indian government. With these efforts to support entrepreneurs, startup incubator has now become a growing trend. The role of the incubators is providing exceptional services to the startup companies – a platform for nurturing their future. Today, presence of various types of incubators for startup companies can be found, including private business incubators, Govt. supported Institute based technology incubators, VC funds, etc. Different incubators have different characteristics to show, and they do not really function identically. But, their primary goal is the same, and that is supporting various budding entrepreneurs or startup businesses.
Like incubators, there are some other entities to help the entrepreneurs. One of such common entities is accelerator. Accelerators also have major roles to play for the startup businesses or entrepreneurs. There are some distinctive differences between incubators and accelerators, and in the following section, we shall learn about those differences. For startup business, it is important to know the differences between them before seeking fundamental business support or help from them.

Differences between Incubators and Accelerators

Though both incubators and accelerators are formed to support the startup businesses, there are some significant differences between the two. For entrepreneurs, both the terms are quite popular, and surprisingly people use these terms interchangeably, which is definitely a ‘wrong-do’. Fundamentally, they are different from each other and that is why they are not interchangeable. To understand their differences, we need to understand their definitions.
Accelerators help accelerating the speed of a business, while incubators help a business with all types of fundamental supports. Hence, to form a business, you would initially require the help of incubators. At the later stage, to make your business more productive, you need support from the accelerators. This is the primary as well as fundamental difference between them.
