What goes on in the minds of the Indian Workforce

March 16, 2015 by Jessee R

The economy of a nation always has the most direct impact on its work force. The Indian economy and the Indian workforce have a similar symbiotic relation. Whenever there is a paradigm shift in functionality and ideologies of the economy it is followed by a trademark shift in the ideology of the workforce.

With the recent changes enforced by the new government the Indian market is bullish on almost all major concerns. The Indian workforce has completely realised that. The explosive influx of investments has created a plethora of opportunities for the Indian workforce to take advantage of and propel their careers to higher pedestals.

The current growth of the Indian economy has had a direct impact on the Indian workforce and started transforming it into a dynamic and hard core career oriented group of individuals. The GDP is rising, investments are flowing, hiring is good, unemployment is decreasing and opportunities are more than ever before.

The modern Indian worker is intelligent enough to realise all the above and so he is enforcing a remarkable shift in the age old idea of stability and sustenance. This ideology is increasingly being replaced by dynamism, risk and growth. But to efficiently see what has led to these changes it si important to know what is the Indian worker thinking.

What really goes on in the minds of the Indian Workforce

  1. Diversification

diversify

Back in the day there is used to be one secure job, one steady stream of income and a sustained life.

The tables have turned. The competition is so tough nowadays that one skill cannot guarantee a settled life. This has led the Indian workforce towards diversification. Essentially, it means that we no keep all our eggs in different baskets. More and more people are learning new skills as add-ons to their core expertise to upgrade themselves.

Why is this happening? The competition is a major factor but people are realising that more skills means more genres where one can work. More work means more income and that too from multiple channels. Thus, in one master stroke the Indian worker is creating backup channels of work so that he is secured from catastrophes like downsizing and recession, he is earning through multiple channels and he is earning more.

This is good for the country in terms of economic development too!  Read this post to know more about changing shifts in the ideologies of the Indian employee.

  1. Freelance Opportunities

 freelance

Where will the multiple income streams come from? Freelancing is the answer to most Indian workers here. At Truelancer we are seeing a surge in Indian Freelancers. In fact, Indian freelancers are dominating the entire Asian Pacific region in freelance revenue and work.

Freelance is often confused as silly par-time work but the reality is that the Indian worker has realised it as an essential step towards self-employment and entrepreneurship. Therefore we are seeing new freelance firms every day and more and more full time freelancers raking in dream income and realising their goals.

Becoming a freelancer is being taken more and more seriously by the Indian workforce as they are seeing the influence it has over the Western Work Ideology. It gives them a chance to

  • prove their metal
  • establish a network of clients and have steady work
  • live the comfortable life they dreamt about
  • Work with complete independence
  • Make a mark on the globe
  • Proceed to entrepreneurship

The advent if the internet and its easy availability and accessibility have empowered the Indian workforce with informed decision making. The Indian worker is doing online research. He is finding opportunities which suit his niche. He is working on creating a large online network and clientele.

The scope has broadened and the Indian worker is realising that. More and more people are cracking internet opportunities and making a name in ecommerce, blogging, digital marketing, and content creation.

Every decision is based on research. People have the time and resources to evaluate their options. The good thing is that people are realising the power of choice, the benefits of a competitive market and the advantages of informed decisions.

  1. Risk is the new order of the day

risk taking

As said above, the informed decision making and increased dynamism has led to the evolution of the modern Indian employee. This person bases his decisions on calculated risks and plans ahead rather than thinking about modest sustenance.

The motivation for heightened achievement has become quite exemplary throughout the Indian workforce who can be seen by the growing number of women entrepreneurs and the increasing number of globally active start-ups our economy is churning out every day.

  1. Overall Satisfaction v/s Job Satisfaction

overall satisfaction

The new Indian workforce is not interested in huge pay checks or unending benefits or promotions. We need something bigger and deeper and that is life satisfaction.

In a nutshell, the Indian workforce is transforming. The old ideas of stability and modestly have given way to dynamism, risk taking appetite and growth. The modern Indian worker is very active, thinks on his feet, realises and evaluates opportunities, takes informed decisions and participates heavily in taking calculated risks.

This is the reason we have seen a global surge in Indian freelancing. This is why we see new Indian startups turn in success stories every passing day.
