How to manage your freelance work
Freelancing is an adventurous field. Freelance work allows you to be your own boss, work on your own time and your own terms. But everything is not as sunny as it looks. Freelancers have a lot of workload and pressure on them too in the starting years and in general. Different clients have different requirements, they give different deadlines, require different kind of communication. The freelancer manages it all, works through all and only survives when he satisfied them all.
Being your own boss is difficult. You have to do a lot of stuff in a little time. But you can definitely manage that. We at Truelancer observe the characteristics of successful freelancers and deduce what attributes make them tick. Here we have enlisted some to dos which when followed have proven to support a smooth freelance life and efficient freelance work management.
How can you efficiently manage your freelance work?
Create a daily action plan
A daily action plan is a to do list of the important things that you to do at specific times. And a daily action plan is that for the day. Make this plan one night before. Include the freelance work that you have to do. You can prioritize your work based on client requirements like deadlines, sharing times etc.
This will help you to better allocate your time as you have decided before hand about the entire workday.
Schedule a routine
The extent of freedom is truly shown when you follow a self-enforced discipline. A routine is a must. I am not telling you to wake up at 5 in the morning. You make wake up at 12 noon and sleep at 4 in the morning. This means that work a routine for the 16 hours in the middle. Sort the routine exhaustively based on various options like meals, breaks, workouts and work time and stick to this routine consistently. The best way is to write it down and place it at a place where you can see it every morning.
This will increase your activity, efficiency and consequently the whole productivity. It will make your time extremely dynamic and you will be surprised at your output.

Think from a corporate mind-set
Think of it as not freelance for a moment. Think as if you are running your own enterprise. This is because you are doing the same thing on a smaller level. The only employee is you. You are its sole proprietor. Everything you do has a direct effect on it and thus on your income, health, lifestyle and LIFE. Do you get it now!! I am sure you must.
Until and unless you do not treat your work with a corporate decorum, things will not roll in favour of you.
Plan and organize
Planning and organizing are the real keys to a fun-filled life. The immediate effect is that your efficiency generates more free time for you. You have become a freelancer so that you can do stuff you like and live your life to the fullest. You can’t do that if you are barely meeting deadlines or waking up to lazy afternoons.
Therefore start organizing your work and plan each day thoroughly. The effects are great on your overall life.
Keep Track of all your work
Keeping track of what has happened leads to better steps ahead. When you start following up on the work you have done you get a better idea of how much work you can handle, at what times are you most productive, how much work are you actually getting and what is the feedback on your work.
This helps you to make plans to better optimize your work and create an efficient work strategy to generate a better feedback. You will soon develop a work mechanism to create better quality results for your clients.
Keep track of all your transactions
Money matters! Once you get a hang of what you are getting and what you are spending. It may be that you have spent more than you realised without saving for a rainy day. It is not like you will get a lot of work today and the same amount work tomorrow. You may get no work too!
Thus it is must to keep tab on the money. It gives you a proper idea of your finances and allows you plan your work or find freelance work accordingly.
Have a separate work environment
Don’t work from the bed! It makes you lazy and underactive. Even in your studio you can easily install a small work place. Customize it according to your interests. If you like hard rock music then lay in some Black Sabbath posters there or Steve Jobs for the more techie ones!
This motivates you to create an awesome freelance work experience for yourself! There is nothing more satisfying than that.
Freelancing does not mean that you have an easy life and you can do whatever you want. It means that you are self-employed and need to work a lot more and put in a lot more skills. So pep up your life and start acting like a true boss. Only then can you effectively become your own boss and get all the freelance work you want.
