The Era of Freelance Entrepreneurs: People who have freelance to a new level
This is the era of startups. Guess what? Everyone from engineering colleges started making one whether they completed the course or not. It became the sign of pride these days.
I think you all know what freelancing is and who a freelancer is, don’t you? In a nutshell a freelancer is one person who takes writing, designing or something like that as his/her profession and works from his place of comfort on a contract basis.
But this is entrepreneurship era. If you are a blogger or writer, just look at your friend list. There must be many CEOs. Chief Executive Officers are ruling web. If a CEO decides, you can’t connect with your friends. Who is that? No idea? It’s Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook.
This is the era of Freelance Entrepreneurs. These people quit being part of a system because they believed they had much more potential. They believed in their ideas and went on to become a brand name of their won.
Who is an Entrepreneur?
An Entrepreneur is a person who creates his own small/large business ventures and shoulders all the loss or gain. He is not an employee. Instead, he incubates new ideas and establishes it.
What are the Main Differences between Freelancer and Entrepreneur?
- Freelancer works on a contract basis (like pay per hour or pay per project), but an entrepreneur works for the long- term business.
- Freelancer works for others (yet he can accept/reject jobs). An entrepreneur works for himself.
- Freelancers get money for their work. Entrepreneurs can get money while they are sleeping (selling of products)
- Entrepreneurs take risks. But freelancers have not much risk to take.
In fact, freelancing and entrepreneurship have many things in common. There are many people who started off as a freelancer and became a successful entrepreneur. Let us see some of them.
Here are the heroes or Freelance Entrepreneurs
1. Brian Wong
He is a young passionate entrepreneur and the master brain behind the startup, Kiip. If you are a die- hard video game fan, you may hear about him. The lesser known fact is that he started off as a freelancer. Being a designer, he used to design ads in Photoshop for his clients to earn some bucks. It was later he realized the possibilities of entrepreneurship. Kiip is actually an extension to mobile games. We have seen many games which offers rewards on achievements like coins. It can be used to purchase in- game accessories. That venture became a real hit. And he partnered with many giant companies like Sony, Disney, PepsiCo, Kodak, Guinness World Records and Carl’s Jr. Mashable included him in the list of “Top 5 Young Entrepreneurs to Wat5ch” in 2010.
2. Collis Ta’eed
Do you know Envato? He is the man behind it. Oops. Don’t you know it? Then certainly you are aware of the sites like Netuts+, Audiotuts+, Psdtuts+ and Vectortuts+. I am quite certain that you will not say no to this. You know at least one of them. All these Tuts+ websites together constitute Envato network. Here comes the astonishing fact, he too was a freelancer before co- founding Envato. Like Brian Wong, Collis was also a freelance designer, accurately, a web- designer. The experiences he earned as a freelancer helped him a lot to start Envato network with his wife. Envato has been started in 2006 March. As the name indicates, Tuts+ websites are dedicated tutorial websites. Psdtuts+ is only for Photoshop tutorials, Vectortuts+ is dedicated to vector files and all the sites are only for a specific thing. Now Envato is one of the top most tutorial networks. It is currently earning about $100 million a year (approx.)
3. Cyan Ta’eed
Did you notice the surname of this lady and the above man is the same? Did you guess it? Yes, both of them are spouses. I mentioned about his wife with whom he kick- started Envato networks. It’s Cyan Ta’eed who is the co- founder of that famous tutorial writer. Apart from she and her husband, there is one person who can claim the foundation of Envato. He is Jun Rung. This lady also is a designer. She also did jobs to make some money and sold it. Her first entrepreneurial venture was FreelanceSwitch which was the platform for expert freelance writers before it was merged with Envato network. As of now, it has about 385,000 members. The figure itself speaks out about the popularity of FreelanceSwitch.
4. Carol Tice
Are you a freelance writer? Then definitely you started to think about the absence of freelance writers in this list, didn’t you? Here comes Carol Tice. Although she owns many hats, solely she is a freelance writer. Just know, what skill you possess is not a matter. It matters how you making use of it. No one is here in this world without any skill. Knowing and churning out that skill to more benefits is the significant thing. I know you are very much familiar with the site MakeALivingWriting. It is dedicated for those who want to make a living from writing online. I am a subscriber of his website. It helps us to generate some bucks if we follow her strategies well. Along with it, she also is the founder of FreelanceWritersDen. It’s a community for freelancers. There are e- courses, e- books and webinars to increase the revenue of online content writers.
