Tell us about yourself.
I am an ex-service woman who’s served as an officer in the Indian Armed Forces. In class VI, thanks to a wonderful English language teacher, I fell in love with the subject and have stayed in love ever since. I love reading, writing, wordplay, crosswords and language riddles. I have many other hobbies as well in sports and culinary in nature but you will never find me without a book. I am an animal lover and a fearless, vociferous advocate of their rights. I believe in equality and embracing diversity among humans too, irrespective of gender, colour, religion or nationality.
Why and when did you start freelancing?
I started freelancing 5 years back because I was living in a remote location in the North-Eastern reaches of my country, where I could not have found myself any job. The only access to the rest of the world was through a broadband connection and so I got on to the net, leveraged my skills and began fishing for work.
What are the challenges you have found in your freelancing career?
Getting my first break was my toughest challenge. It could take weeks or even months. You have no prior testimonials backing you, you are unsure of the rates to quote and none of your proposals seem to get accepted. That’s when you shouldn’t lose hope, continue believing in yourself (even if it seems like no one else does) and continue pitching. YOU will eventually get picked up. Another challenge I usually face is deciding on my rates for individual projects. Each job is different and takes different time and effort to complete so knowing where to position yourself and how much to charge, is a challenge I face even today.
What according to you does it take to be a successful freelancer?
First and foremost, absolutely sound and solid skill in your chosen field. Like i said, believe in yourself even when no one else does. Secondly, professionalism. You must deliver as promised, as much as promised and within the time promised. Thirdly, keep learning, keep skilling, keep upgrading, keep pushing yourself to venture a little beyond your comfort zone each time. Lastly, enjoy doing what you’re doing because that’s the reason you probably let go of a secure job and became a freelancer, in the first place.

How did you get to know about Truelancer?
Through the internet. Don’t exactly remember how i tripped upon it.
What do you think about working on Truelancer?
I think working on Truelancer, successfully completing projects and reading client reviews, boosts my confidence and assures me that my services are indeed top-notch, relevant and in-demand. It gives you a certain worth and standing, apart from of course the money you make working from home with as much flexibility as you like.
What do you like doing when you are not “Freelancing”?
I am a professional speaker so I take on speaking or hosting gigs. An amateur baker, I love baking sweet and savouries for my friends and family. Horse-riding, driving and photography are my other passions which I pursue with gusto. I also volunteer with animal NGOs and an NGO for the blind.
