Continuing our series of highlighted Freelancers, we are pleased to introduce Ahana Chatterjee, a writer, journalist, and voice-over artist who is known for her active participation at Truelancer. Her skills and creative writing have boosted her freelancing career. Within four years of freelancing, she had the opportunity to work with brands and multiple clients, foreign and national. Let’s dive into her freelance life and know her freelancing journey.
When did you start freelancing and what inspired you?
I started freelancing in 2018 when one of my very close acquaintances inspired me for the same. I am truly grateful to him for introducing me to the beauty of enjoying freedom while you work. Freelancing gives complete freedom to become your boss, where you can work at your own pace, you get to choose who you will be working with, and there is no limit to your earnings. The more you can work, the more you can earn.
What do you like the most about writing and voice-over?
I like everything about what I do! But the best part of writing is that you get to know a huge base of audiences; you have the power to pursue them, so, you put your best so that the visitors turn into potential consumers. Content is king, and creating that king will of-course make you feel heavenly.
Voiceovers allow me to add variety. It feels like I am actually talking to the audience – again my tonality has the power to pursue.
What are the most important skills required as a freelance writer and voice-over artist?
The most important skill of a freelancer is to understand the client’s requirements – once you understand that, the next part becomes a lot easier including your technical skills. Understanding the requirements will help you curate the contents accordingly and target the right audience.
What challenges have you come across in your freelancing career?
Well, there are many. But the worst part is when the client denies you to pay, coming up with some petty reasons for the contents being unacceptable. Even though there are many worthy clients, some bad faces do make the experience frightening.
What according to you does it take to be a successful writer and voice-over freelancer?
To be successful as a freelancer, you need to understand the audience and curate quality content. You need to be straightforward with your write-ups and get the right tone for voiceovers – once that’s done, success will come following you.
What suggestions do you want to give to the budding freelance writer and voice-over artists?
For all budding freelancers, you need to abide by your commitments; try not to fail the deadlines, and if you do, please communicate the same with your client. Clear and timely communication is very important because you do not get to be in an office, facing your boss every day.
Another important thing is to maintain the quality of your work. If you are unable to handle 10 projects together, then take two and make the best out of it. Your quality of work will talk to you.
Start small to get big!
How did you get to know about freelancing and what is your experience using Turelancer?
As I said, one of my friends did it for me! Had it not been for me, I might have not taken this journey. He opened my profile on Truelancer, and since then, there has been no going back. There have been ups and downs, but the thrill never faded. I am forever grateful to that person.
When you have a four-year relationship with someone, there surely be thicks and thins; my experience with Truelancer has just been like that! This portal is safe, the administration is active, they are organized, and no matter what, they have been there with me since the beginning. Truelancer has made freelancing quite hassle-free.
