Tell us about yourself.
Hi! I am Sehba Jalal – a simple girl with high thinking! I am a freelance content writer with a rich experience of 7 years. Having a journalism degree and a born attitude of curiosity has given me the courage to explore and dig a variety of niches in the career as well as writing.
Why and when did you start freelancing?
I started freelancing 5 years back because I hated the idea of leaving back my little ones at home and go to office for a 9 to 5 job. At the same time, I knew that if God has given you some talent, He will help you utilize the same. Gathering my writing skills, experience and determination together, I became a work-from-home professional. I am a supermom for my kids & a hardworking writer for my clients!
I strongly believe that pen is mightier than a sword and a good piece of writing can revolutionize the whole world!
What do you like about being a freelancer?
Here are my 4 most favorite things about being a freelancer.
Being a freelancer:
- I get the freedom to work from any place, any day and any time.
- I get to choose projects & price which I like and deserve, respectively.
- I get to save on time that is wasted in getting ready for office and commute.
- Last but of course, not the least, I can work in my pyjamas ☺
What are the challenges you have found in your freelancing career?
First things first! Freelancing career needs lot of patience. Rome wasn’t built in a day! You need to wait and at the same time keep on clicking various opportunities. It takes few good projects, good clients and lot of hard work to build your own positive reputation in the market. I did the same with lot of patience.
Also, it was challenging to found good project initially but I kept working on whatever I received. This strategy helped me earn good reviews and rates which further led to receiving good projects.
What according to you does it take to be a successful freelancer?
It takes the following things:
Keep on trying every opportunity that you get.
Always deliver original, creative and well-researched work.
Meet the deadlines. Remember, time is an important factor for you and your client as well!
Commit only when you can actually do it!
Charge reasonably keeping your experience & skills in mind
Always keep your client updated about the work progress.

[Featured Freelancer] Meet Vandit, A Curated Graphic Designer at Truelancer
Continuing with our series of featured freelancers, today we proudly present to you an Amazing Graphic Designer Vandit Shah who is always known for her outstanding creativity.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Well, I came from what I would call a “not so wealthy background”. My dad couldn’t work because of a heart condition so my mum was the main breadwinner. I always admire her strength and determination and courage. I’ve always had an eye on UI/UX and was fond of finding inspiration for Mobile App UI, Website Design, Logo Design, Brochure Design, Banner Design and so on – I was convinced that I would work in an environment related to the UI/UX and will consult a needy persons as and when needed.
I started working as UI/UX designer for a small start-up company. When I got a good grip on project communication and design tools I began to work as UI/UX director and app consultant. Once I was experienced, I was approached by some friends for freelancing – it went well so I got into it.
How did you get into freelancing?
When I was younger, I always knew that design was my talent I just didn’t know which direction to take it in. My parents persuaded me to study business studies and work in Bank. Well, I hated the business studies! So much so that I never actually made it to the Bank job!! I always remember waiting for the number 20 bus. If the bus was a minute late I would run through the graveyard and back home to my bed!
It was then I decided to take control of my life. I enrolled in various design courses that led me to Freelance UI/UX Designer. I can distinctively remember the day of the interview, I had to design a creative piece of artwork for the teachers to observe. I was ecstatic upon discovering that the teachers very much liked my concertina perspex book equipped with a matching stand. After leaving college I decided to freelance first to gain experience in the industry.
How did you come across Truelancer?
I still remember, when I had no work to do, I read “The 4 Hour Work Week” by Tim Ferriss and it mentioned outsourcing and freelancing online and that’s how I found out about Truelancer.
What was your first job like on Truelancer?
My first job was to create designs for an application; the client was just known French and I’m an intermediate learning French, who asked me to plan and design his app idea; we did it within his budget and he was extremely happy.
What is a typical day like for you?
I usually wake up early at 6:30 AM IST. I always try to stay fit so I do exercise and run for half an hour. Once I am done, I take breakfast with all emails, notifications, and Skype opened up and I begin to answer them. I focus on replying to new leads first in a detailed manner, and I update ongoing projects to clients before they sleep.
I start working at 10 am morning and set priorities. If I have lots of projects, I try to work for 15 hours, or else I enjoy meeting with new clients, consult them and I love to play “Play Station and Mobile Games”. I tend to update all my clients as the day progresses and based on priorities.
How does freelancing compare to a 10-7?
It is a completely different experience. The best part is I get money for my efforts. I feel that I have become more sincere towards delivery and quality compared to the time when I used to do a regular job; 10-7 for me was a fixed salary – freelancing now means no limits per month. I can attend any important functions and events by adjusting my time without seeking permission from anyone.
One more thing, I travel a lot and I can simply work by carrying my mac with me anywhere at anytime.
What benefits have you found by using Truelancer?
Working through TruLancer makes it very easy to manage the projects using the work stream. Another advantage is the ‘SELL SERVICE’ feature which helps get more potential leads and that is the most amazing thing.
Also, don’t underestimate the dashboard part where you can easily find the stats, work streams and invites in one place.
What does your future hold? Where would you like to take this?
I am currently focusing on the mobile app UI/UX and I would like to get specialized at some point as I am developing a small freelancing team under me to help me in additional projects as well as handling clients.
I would also like to build a small freelancing team with a very strong architecture of project management. I would also like to develop native apps for clients which can get sufficient funding, that way I can build successful products for my clients and eventually they will be lifetime clients.
What are your top 5 tips for freelancers who are new to Truelancer?
I would like to focus on the following things while freelancing and especially when you are new here:
- Communication: Communication is essential whether it’s regarding replying to certain questions or explaining your understanding. Without proper words, you won’t ever be able to do good business.
- Timeliness: The time period of response before and after sales – Clients/Buyers here are mostly outside India and are very particular about timing. They expect a quick reply or scheduled reply. Before sales reply and after sales reply timing, both are necessary to retain the client.
- The process of delivering big project: Process here is important and explaining to your client about following that process is equally important as it’s all about the process while delivering the project, as it will be easy to go back and forth to resolve the issues.
- Attention to detail: Don’t just give the quote or your proposal before understanding the requirements as it may lead to an economic loss and may turn out to be the last project with that client. Try to understand the project fully before you commit the deadlines & the most important
- Quality: Quality is the only thing that matters in the end. Even if you have to extra mile, try to provide tested & quality checked outcome rather than just throwing anything to the client as if the quality is good you obviously going to get more projects or references from that client.
Is there anything else you want to say?
- Give respect, get respect
- Don’t over-commit
- Don’t compromise on the cost if you aren’t going to compromise on the quality.
- Be proactive and update your clients before they ask
- Retrain your brain if you need to!

[Featured Freelancer] Meet Roxana, An Amazing Content Writer from Argentina.
Continuing with our series of featured freelancers, today, we proudly present to you an Amazing Content Writer Roxana Acosta Sosa who is always known for her outstanding content.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Roxana and I am from Argentina but I am residing in India since 2 years ago.
I love writing since I was 10 years old when my mother gave me my first diary. I wrote every day and I read a lot to develop my vocabulary in different areas. I also decided to study English in order to write in my native language (Spanish) and be able to extend my work to English speakers. This skill also gave me the opportunity to do translations.
I can write about a wide variety of topics. Writing is a wonderful world where, for me, it is a great pleasure and I use it as an escape route to get out of the noisy world in which we live, at least for a few hours.
Why and when did you start freelancing?
A little more than a year ago, I had started working in a company developing projects through a virtual platform and the salary that they offered was too low for the projects I carried out, which consisted in documents’ translations. It was then where I thought: “I can do this work from the comfort of my home without having a boss”, so I decided to leave it and develop my talent using my own computer, internet and create unique content for those who have web pages.

What do you like about being a Freelance Content Writer?
Be a freelancer means that you can work with many people from different business developing different tasks without leaving your comfort place. You can manage your own time, you decide with whom to work and you can put your own price on your work or in some cases, have a “deal” with the client.
Be a freelancer is the best because I do not need to take and spend money on any bus or train to go to the office when is raining so I just prepare my tea and I stay in my room wearing my slippers and I start writing!
What are the challenges you have found in your freelance Content Writer as a Career?
I can say that I had some difficult clients because some of them seemed not to know what they needed. To understand what my client need is my goal for then be able to deliver a good project, so you have to have a lot of patience and the dialogue is a must.
I have also had some problems with my work’s price. Many clients want to pay much less for the work I do and that has made me feel that they do not value the time and dedication I give to be able to deliver a content that is 100% original. Then if I see that the client is really honest from the beginning and likes my work but his budget is low, I can consider having a deal.
What according to you does it take to be a successful freelancer?
I think it does not help much if you know how to develop a project very well but you cannot deliver it on time.
Meeting the delivery deadline means having the 80% of the approved project, the rest constitutes the content itself, it can be fixed if the client wants to add or remove something but the lack of fulfilment of time means losing a client.
When a freelancer decides to work on different projects it is because he/she can do it and has enough time to meet all the clients. As in all work areas, you have to know that the client is always right about his project and a happy client will always come back to you.
How did you get to know about Truelancer?
Investigating the different virtual platforms that help you develop your work as a freelancer.
I worked at UpWork platform before and after 6 months, they closed my account saying they did not need me. They told me that I could not develop as a freelance writer because they already had many freelancers who were doing the same. I was surprised and felt discriminated against and when I asked for more explanations they did not give it to me. Fortunately, Truelancer has given me the opportunity and space to grow where I can develop my work without conditions doing what I love.
What do you think about working on Truelancer?
Truelancer is the best platform. They give you freedom, also their support team helps you with everything you need when you have doubts and the help is immediate, you do not need to send emails asking for some help, you can chat directly with the administrator right away!
They also advise and recommend projects so you can talk to the client directly, It is the best way to help you grow. Definitely, Truelancer was my best decision.
What do you like doing when you are not “Freelancing’’?
I have to thanks to Truelancer because thanks to this platform I can do my second passion: travel. I can travel and visit different places in India. It has even helped me travel to my own country and visit my family, imagine, Argentina is so far away from here! So I can manage my own time.
[Featured Freelancer] Meet Vishakha Goyal, Content Writer & Editor From India!
Continuing with our series of featured freelancers, today, we proudly present to you our 5 Star Rated Content Writer & Editor, Vishakha Goyal who is a Grammar Nazi and creates magic with her words!
Tell us about yourself!
My name is Vishakha Goyal, and I hail from the capital city of India. Delhi has always been home to me since I have lived here my entire life. Languages have forever been a passion, and I have wanted to be a linguist for as long as I can remember. Today, I can say that I know four languages and plan to learn much more as and when I get a chance. I believe that what goes around really does come around and I generally practice honesty and perfection in whatever I do.
Life has taught me many crucial lessons (the hard way and the easy way). One such valuable lesson is that I always stick to my guns and remember that change is the only constant in life. Nothing is forever and the more we try to hold on to something, the harder it is to live life.
My motto in life is:
Why & when did you start freelancing?
I started freelancing in the summer of 2015. I always knew I had a knack for writing and while I was pursuing my post-graduation in English Literature, I figured why not earn a neat side income doing what I’d always loved to do! After months of sending out proposals and seeing them getting rejected, I landed my first content writing job on Truelancer for a guy who really helped hone my skills and instil confidence in my work. Now, I have my own content writing company, Lingoease that is my pride and passion. The rest is history!
What do you like about being a freelancer?
Well, everything! Freelancing, for me, is a full-time job! I like the flexible work hours that I can take on since it doesn’t have to be a regular 9 to 5 job. I like that it gives me the creative freedom to explore my true potential as a writer in addition to letting me pick & choose the kind of work I’d like to take on. The best thing about freelancing is that I am not answerable to anyone. I am my own boss, and the world is my oyster! I can take a break without the hassle of leave applications, and I can quit without the hassle of a two weeks’ notice. But most importantly, I can work from the comfort of my home or while I travel effortlessly!
They say that all you really need is love to live a fulfilling life! In the same vein, for me, all you really need is a laptop with a super-fast internet connection and coffee to be a very successful freelancer. And talent, of course! Let’s not forget that!
What are the challenges you have found in your freelancing career?
Well, as much as I like the freelancing world, it is not without its shortcomings. The biggest one for me perhaps is the relentless hard work that I need to put in each day. In some ways, it’s even harder than a 9-5 job because in this case, I put in more hours. At times, it takes a toll on me, and I think about quitting, but freelance writing for me is a drug. I can never stay away for too long! However, the more I work, the more I seem to grow as an individual, and I think I can proudly say that my work life today, is incredibly rewarding.
What, according to you, does it take to be a successful freelancer?
Talent, persistence, hard work, dedication, honesty and a whole lot of coffee! A few tips that I would like to share with freelancers based on my own experience are:
- Make deadlines your religion.
- Be persistent. Don’t give up too easily.
- Play to your strengths.
- Be open to new opportunities and expand your horizons.
Being a freelancer is a challenging task. Only those who rise to the occasion excel in this field!
How did you get to know about Truelancer?
The know-it-all Google! I came across Truelancer in the month of April 2015 when I was browsing the web for freelancing opportunities. Lo and behold, Truelancer popped up in one of the search results. Truelancer was actually the first freelancing platform I ever joined, and this is where I started my career as a freelance content writer & editor.
What do you think about working on Truelancer?
Wow, Truelancer is like my alma mater. This is where I started, and this is the platform that I give credit to for giving a shape to my future. I still work on Truelancer, and the best thing about it is undeniably its support team. They are super accommodating and helpful in addition to being prompt in moments of crisis. Two thumbs up!
What do you like doing when you are not “freelancing”?
I like travelling, reading romance fiction, writing poems when I’m inspired, sleeping when I’m not! Honestly, being a full-time freelancer rarely gives me the opportunity to “not freelance,” but when I do have some leisure time, I like unwinding with some music or the best of Stephanie Laurens!
